ABSENCE AND MAKE-UPIn the case of an excused absence due to illness or family emergency, the student will be given one week to complete quizzes and in class work assigned during the absence. All homework, including homework assigned during the absence, is due the day the student returns to class.
In the case of an excused absence for school activities the student must notify the teacher at least 24 hours in advance and make arrangements for making up work. All homework must be turned in BEFORE class on the day it is due. In the case of an excused absence due to family activities, family travel or religious observance, the student must notify the teacher at least 48 hours in advance and make arrangements for making up work. Students are expected to have a letter from parents/guardians, and in the case of an extended absence must clear it with the administration before leaving. Students will not receive credit for work due on the day of an unexcused absence. If a student is absent for more than two consecutive classes, the student or a parent or guardian is expected to contact the teacher about missed work. Email is the best way to get in touch. If email is not convenient call my extension or leave a message at the school office. Students who miss a class are expected to read the text and/or get notes from a reliable classmate. Students who will be required to take any tests or quizzes given in class even if they missed one or more previous classes. ABSENCE ON THE DAY OF A TEST: Students are expected to be present and take all tests in class on the scheduled date. In the case of an excused absence due to illness or family emergency, the student will be required to take the test the day he or she returns to class, provided the tests have not been graded. If the student plans to be absent on the test date, the student must meet with the teacher at least 48 hours in advance (preferably a week in advance) and schedule a time to take the test. A student who misses a test and is unable to take it will complete an alternative assessment assigned by the teacher. A maximum of ONE alternative assessment per semester (semester 1 is terms 1 and 2, semester 2 is terms 3 and 4) is permitted. A student who misses additional tests will receive zeroes on those tests. |
